Environment Day at Port Moresby Nature Park

The Port Moresby nature park will be hosting the world environment day on Saturday June 1 in partnership with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA).

The emphasis of the day is to recognise the importance of the world’s natural environment and the need to protect it.

The four key themes for the day will incllude water conservation, waste management, clean energy and climate change awareness which will be in line with this year’s theme ‘air pollution’.

Nature park is expecting an even bigger event this year, with an estimated 3,000 people, predominantly families, to attend the fun-filled event.

The event will showcase over 30 different stalls and displays from various conservation organisations, government agencies, utility companies and business houses all keen to promote ways in which each of us can make a positive difference in conserving the natural environment whilst saving money on household bills.

Organisations who have already confirmed to attend include; United Nations development project, Conservation Environment and Protection Authority, Brian Bell Group, Eda Ranu, Coral Sea Hotel, PNG Power, Climate Change Development Authority, Tenkile Conservation Alliance, The Nature Conservancy, The Voice PNG Inc, PNG environmental Services, Sustainable Coastlines, RSPCA, Piku Diversity Network, Coastal Clean-up Committee, Eco Services Kreative Kanaka, PNG Biomass, K.K Kindston and NCDC.

World environment day will also feature a number of interactive activities for kids including fashion parade, animal presentations, face painting, games and activities and many more.

There will also be a number of prizes and giveaways on the day.

Port Moresby nature park general manager Michelle McGeorge said; ‘This is the largest and longest running international event which attracts over two thousand to three thousand people predominantly families.

She thanked United Nations development program and Environment and Protection Authority(CEPA) for coming on board to partner to host this great event.
